Recently, Leap Motion announced its latest gesture tracking software Orion, and demonstrated on Samsung Gear VR.

It is understood that Leap Motion's new mobile platform (Mobile Platform) uses a new sensor, which "retrofit" the Orion software, improve its operating speed by about 10 times, tracking performance is also more "smooth, accurate." The sensor is an elongated metal strip that can be mounted in a mobile helmet display.
New sensor
When displayed on the Gear VR, players can clearly see their hands without the need to shake hands. David Holz, CTO and co-founder of Leap Motion, said that it is important to ensure that the mobile phone does not use excessive hotness when it uses the technology.
“This is one of the reasons we have developed a new low-power hardware, because if the energy consumption is too high, it may burn the phone,†Holz said. “Our devices are extremely low power, almost the same Half of the product."
In addition to low power consumption, the Leap Motion team also adjusted the scope of the module so that even very tall people can still track two-handed movements at different distances. The tracked visual field range has been increased from 140 x 120 degrees to 180 x 180 degrees.
Demonstration effect
This gesture tracking technology can accurately imitate intricate gesture movements by being able to trace every joint in the hand, even the muscles in the elbows. In the demo, players can use their hands to arrange obstacles, fly, throw or even grab obstacles, and everything is natural.
According to reports, Leap Motion will license the sensor to "several" VR headset manufacturers, including Razer's open source OSVR platform, and there will be more VR all-in-one computers using this technology in 2017.
