This site is the first drying Sigma EX-DG 8MM/3.5 full-week fisheye lens

The full-length fisheye lens refers to a special lens with the same viewing angle in any direction of the imaging picture. The image field range is completely within the frame range and presents a circular screen. The viewing angle range is from 180° (8mm) to 220° (6mm). .

There are strong perspectives and distortions in the picture taken by the fish eye lens throughout the week, which are different from the visual picture style and are usually used to express extreme exaggerated visual effects.

My first full-round fisheye lens is the Belarusian BER/MM3.5 fisheye lens. From the film era to the digital age, this lens also brought me many interesting photos.

However, I have to say that this lens still has some regrets. The phase field slightly exceeds the size, the glare performance is poor, and the coordination with Nikon's body and so on. As a result, I have always been looking for a more perfect full-length fisheye lens.

In fact, there are not many choices of fisheye lens in the whole week. Nikon’s original two manual lenses have already been a thing-like existence. It seems that the most suitable choice is this Sigma EX-DG 8MM/ 3.5 full week fisheye lens.

Basic specifications:

Lens focal length 8mm, axis angle of view 180 °, magnification 0.27;

The lens uses 6 groups of 11 structures, the largest aperture F3.5, the smallest aperture F22;

The lens has no iris ring, and the Nikon mount version is body-driven autofocus;

The lens size is 73.00mmx68.00mm and weighs 400G.

Of course, as a non-traditional theme lens, we should still uphold the principle of pragmatism, so I eventually spent 2,700 yuan from the equipment market to bring back this fine fisheye lens.

Out of the box

Thanks to the carefulness of the former lens owner, I still have a box to open

The black cartons of Sigma's conventions, the front shows the lens model, belong to the EX class, and there is a DG label for digital optimization.

The open tray is a nylon lens barrel, and Sigma is always attached to the lens barrel.

Pulled open the zipper, the original plastic bag is still well preserved, thanks again to the owner of the camera.

Exterior

The lens size is not large, the thickness is similar to that of the Nikon G series head, and the length is slightly longer, but the weight is 400 grams, which is heavy in the hand.

By the way, I liked the design of the gold circle.

There is a pinch lens cap on the lens. However, when using the lens, it is necessary to remove the metal sleeve below, instead of merely pinching the lid off, otherwise the screen will be blocked.

Wrong way to open:

The correct way to open:

Many enthusiasts don't like bulb-type lenses because they cannot be protected with UV mirrors. Only a fixed hood can provide some protection, and using pre-filters also receives many restrictions and requires an extra investment.

This 8MM bulb is more thorough, and any object that exceeds the front of the lens will be shot into the screen. Even the hood is omitted. However, compared with Belarus's Bieleka lens, its light bulb is relatively flat.

The picture shows the bielica lens:

Sigma 8MM lens:

The closest focusing distance of the lens is 13.5CM, the distance between the flange and the lens itself, about the distance from the lens before the jade 2CM can focus.

The lens uses an external focus mechanism, but the lens length changes little from infinity to the closest focusing distance.

A rear filter slot is designed at the rear of the lens to allow the installation of post-filters.

Jade in front of the camera looks very deep from the front.

Chrysanthemum photo, Nikon's body can see the card slot.

The lens has adopted a new layer, which is more durable and beautiful than the old one, and feels cold.

Effect on the machine.

Mechanical behavior

The lens adopts autofocus, and there is no built-in ultrasonic motor. This has to be said to be a pity. However, since the lens does not have a long focusing stroke, the actual speed of use is still good.

Only the focus ring on the mirror can be turned, and the moderate damping feel is quite good;

There is flocking inside the lens cap, but the lens is not very strong on the body, the current use is not affected, it will loosen later, only then to strengthen hands;

On the issue of coke, there is no chaff horse, this lens can not be exempt from the natural, but because it is a fixed-focus lens, the coke is not large and relatively uniform, fine tuning can be perfect by the fuselage, in addition to the huge depth of field, the use of The impact is not great.

Imaging

As Sigma's EX lens series, this EX-DG 8MM/3.5 full-week fisheye lens imaging has been performed above standards in all aspects;

The lens can form a complete circular picture, the phase field is slightly larger than infinity at the closest focusing distance, the picture quality is uniform within the phase field, and direct shooting can form a usable picture;

Compared with the Bieleka lens, the overall quality of the Sigma lens is higher, and the imaging style is also very different. However, all the problems that have caused me problems have all been solved.

Resolving power:

The lens has a good resolving power, the detail retention ability is good, the center and edge resolution under a small aperture is relatively uniform, and the large aperture lens has a slightly softer image quality, but this lens has less chance of using a large aperture;

Compared with the Bieleka lens, the Sigma lens has a smaller contrast and the image quality is more refreshing and natural.

A 100% screenshot shows that the sharpness of the lens is good.

The Bieleka lens has a greater contrast and a sharp feeling, but because of the transfer problem, the resolving power of the two cannot be compared.

color:

It has to be said that the color style of the two-week state fisheye lens varies greatly.

The Bleica lens is designed for film and it is impossible to optimize the digital camera, so the color is light and the overall color is slightly yellow;

The color of Sigma is quite rich, and it has better resilience. I like it very much.

The original Sigma lens is straight out and the color is very beautiful:

The Bieleka lens presents colors, and the weather in the two photos is similar, but the color saturation varies greatly:

Glare:

Ultra-wide-angle lenses and fisheye lenses have a high probability of producing flares and ghosts due to their large field of vision. Major manufacturers have also made efforts to solve this problem.

To my surprise, the anti-glare capability of this fisheye lens was good. Photographs were taken against the light, and only this one had obvious ghosting. This photo was even illuminated as off-site.

The Bieleka lens can only be described as miserable in this respect... See its evaluation article for details.

distortion:

The fisheye lens has a strong distortion. There are no good or bad points here. But comparing the two lenses, I think they have some differences in the distortion control, and feel that the line curvature of the Belika lens is smaller. The Sigma lens is stronger, perhaps the actual perspective of the Sigma lens is slightly larger.

Landscape shots:

Shooting in the horizontal direction can achieve a positive panorama effect. Lines on the phase field diameter can be kept flat. Otherwise, they can be bent. If you want a flat horizon, you need to keep the camera horizontal.

The bridge in the figure is actually a straight line of defense.

Skyline shot:

It has to be said that this is a very special feature of the shot. Shooting directly above can get a complete skyline effect. When shooting the city, the effect is very shocking:

Indoor shooting:

Because it is possible to achieve panoramic shooting, indoor shooting in a small space may produce unexpected results, but large space due to fierce deformation, very bad control, the picture shows a large space shooting:

Macro shooting:

Although the distance from the camera to the front of the camera is 2CM, the zoom ratio is still only 0.27. This can show a special close shot, but you must be careful not to scratch the lens, because in the viewfinder, everything is far away and the lens cannot be seen. Protect it.

Both photos are almost affixed to the subject:

to sum up

The lens has excellent workmanship and excellent quality. There is no obvious short board. The biggest problem for me is the difficulty of protection. For my starting price, I think the price/performance ratio is still outstanding.

This is an interesting shot. At first glance it may not seem like a tool for serious photography. However, thinking carefully can always think of the scene of application. This is why I have been unable to keep such a shot.

Whenever you come to a strange place, see strange cities and scenery, there is such a lens on the side, you can always leave a meaningful picture.
