Philips announced that it will conduct LiFi technology testing at the French real estate investment company Icade's office this week. LiFi expands the Internet through lighting, using LEDs to transmit data through light waves at speeds of up to 30Mb per second.
At present, the use of this technology requires the USB signal receiving tool developed by Philips to be inserted into the computer, but will be built into other devices in the future. The LiFi technology transmits data over an infrared connection, which is safer and more reliable than WiFi.
It is understood that Li-Fi works in a similar way to the familiar infrared remote control. The data is first modulated into a light source, transmitted rapidly by optical signal, and received by the photoreceptor before being recombined into an electrical signal.
But unlike the remote control, Li-Fi uses visible light. Put a microchip on a normal LED bulb, you can control it to flash millions of times per second, light up to indicate 1, and off to represent 0. This means that in the future, ordinary LED bulbs in your home may be transformed into Internet portals. Moreover, since the blinking frequency of the bulb is too fast, the human eye does not feel at all, so there is no need to worry about being "flashed" by the bulb.
