Microsoft just released the latest Virtual Desktop development plan for Surface Desktop and Windows 10 at the press conference last week. However, Microsoft has not introduced too much about its own virtual reality platform. In a recent interview with Polygon, Alex Kipman, head of the Microsoft HoloLens division, revealed that Microsoft will hold a special press conference in December to introduce more plans for virtual reality devices. He said that Microsoft will host two WinHEC conferences in December on December 8th and 9th, and on December 14th and 15th.
It is reported that Microsoft will introduce its virtual reality hardware plan in detail on these two WinHECs, including how to cooperate with more hardware manufacturers to implement the Windows Holographic development strategy. Currently Microsoft has teamed up with Hewlett-Packard, Lenovo, Dell, Acer and Asustek to start production of VR headsets. The system can provide users with the Holographic experience on the Windows 10 platform. The first VR headset device will be released in March next year, that is, after the upgrade of Windows 10 Creataors, the estimated price will be at least 299 US dollars (about 2024 yuan).
Windows Holographic is an important part of Microsoft's Universal program. If Microsoft can persuade more hardware manufacturers to produce virtual reality headsets, then it can provide a broad base for creating VR games and App stores for Windows 10. Microsoft enters the virtual reality industry almost at a low price, and then uses HoloLens to share key information with development partners.
Microsoft's first devices appear to be very similar to existing VR headsets and do not have the effect of augmented reality like HoloLens.
