According to data from CB Insights, in the first half of the year, robotic startups that serve companies have already accumulated a total of 63 investments worth more than US$259 million. These companies are producing robots for industrial automation, manufacturing, warehouse automation, and restaurants.
CB Insights predicts that more than 80 enterprise-level robotic startups will receive investment deals this year.
Startups in the following areas have received substantial financing this year:
Heavy industry
This is a broad category of robots involved in many industrial automation tasks, including manufacturing, assembly, agriculture, robotic food inspection systems, and factory inspections. Since 2012, startups in this area have raised more than 70 investments. In 2016, the largest investment in this area was Clearpath Robotics, Square Robot, and Quotient Kinematics Machine.
Clearpath Robotics produces self-driving vehicles. Unlike Tesla and Google, Clearpath manufactures self-driving vehicles for factory transportation, storage, and distribution. Clearpath has just received a new round of $30 million Series B financing in October.
