Optoelectronic industry output will break 70 billion

In recent years, the optoelectronics industry in Xiamen has developed rapidly. In 2009, the output value of the optoelectronic industry in Xiamen was 40.439 billion yuan, an increase of 22.95% over the same period of last year. The sales revenue was 39.972 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 22.99%.

According to Xu Pingdong, deputy director of the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau, from 2003 to 2009, the output value and sales volume of the optoelectronics industry in Xiamen all maintained a growth rate of over 20% for 7 consecutive years, of which flat panel display industry output value and sales were 30.587 billion yuan and 304.55 respectively. At the same time, Xiamen, as one of the 21 pilot cities of “10 cities and 10 thousand” LED lighting applications, has continuously increased investment in LED lighting application fields, applied development to promote industrial linkage effects, and steadily advanced LED application demonstration projects. Now it has developed into a well-known LED base in China and a leader in the photoelectric industry in Fujian. The next step will be to transform the optoelectronics industry into the first industrial cluster of 100 billion yuan in Xiamen.

In the first half of this year, the output value of Xiamen optoelectronics industry was 33.422 billion yuan, an increase of 118.35% year-on-year; sales revenue was 32.859 billion yuan, an increase of 124.31% year-on-year. At present, the output value has reached 83% of the total output value of the optoelectronic industry in the city last year. The sales volume reached 82% of last year. The total output value is expected to exceed 70 billion yuan this year, occupying half of the province.

Create a public technology service platform

From 2006 to 2009, the Municipal Science and Technology Bureau took out 75% of the financial innovation and R&D expenditures each year, accumulatively invested more than 670 million yuan, and led enterprises, research institutes and other social inputs to exceed 2.5 billion yuan. At present, Xiamen City, a semiconductor lighting inspection and certification center has passed the first phase of the project, on this basis to build the National Semiconductor Light Emitting Device (LED) Application Product Quality Supervision and Inspection Center, has just passed the national acceptance. Xiamen actively uses the advantages of Taiwan and its industries to complement each other, first try first, and build the first national-level Taiwan-to-Taiwan science and technology cooperation and exchange base, and maintain close cooperation with Taiwan Electric Power Association, PIDA, and Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute.

Since 2004, the city has held LED lighting exhibitions, industrial docking and other optoelectronic series activities for seven consecutive years, and has received favorable comments from the LED and optoelectronic community on both sides of the Taiwan Strait.

In June 2010, the Xiang'an Torch LED street light project was listed as a demonstration project of the national semiconductor lighting industry cooperation project.

In 2009, there were 11 Taiwan-funded optoelectronic enterprises with a production value of over 100 million yuan. The output value was 31.072 billion yuan, accounting for 76.84% of the city's total optoelectronic output value. The pattern of Xiamen's taking over of the optoelectronic industry in Taiwan has basically taken shape. Taiwan-funded enterprises such as AU Optronics, Yuhong Technology, Jingyu Optoelectronics, Le Jie Electronics, and TPV have all invested in factories in Xiamen. On April 28, 2009, Xiamen was approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology as the pilot city for the first batch of 21 "Ten Cities, Ten Thousand" LED lighting demonstration projects in China.
