The robot industry is still fierce but hot, and a package of policies is brewing. The reporter learned from the 5th China Robotics Summit on the 10th that the development of China's robotics industry is showing new features of accelerating the transition to the mid-to-high end. On the one hand, the output of industrial robots exceeded 130,000 units last year, becoming the world’s largest application market for five consecutive years. On the other hand, capital and entrepreneurs are gradually returning to rationality, and the rate of growth of corporate registration has declined for the first time. At the same time, the current industrial development is undergoing a crucial stage from the expansion of quantity to the development of high quality, and a package of industry standards and guidelines are also being accelerated.
The momentum is still fierce but the heat is decreasing
At present, the overall momentum of China's robotics industry is still very fierce, but the industrial heat appears a weakening trend. According to the "Research on the Development of China's Robot Industry" (hereinafter referred to as the "Report") released during the summit, since 2017, the growth rate of registration of robotics companies has decreased by 15 percentage points compared with 2016. According to the participating experts interviewed, the market of robots and artificial intelligence experienced blind and disorderly development for some time. Capital and entrepreneurs gradually returned to rationality and the market tended to develop steadily.
In recent years, the robotics industry in our country has developed rapidly. In 2017, the global robot market reached 23.2 billion U.S. dollars, and the Chinese market was approximately 6.28 billion U.S. dollars in the same period. The average growth rate of the global market from 2012 to 2017 was about 17%, and the average growth rate of the Chinese market during the same period reached 28%. Chinese industrial robots have exceeded 130,000 units last year and have become the world's largest application market for five consecutive years, accounting for more than a quarter of the global industrial robot market share. The demand for service robots has great potential, the application scenarios of special robots have expanded significantly, the process of localization of core components has been accelerating, and a large number of innovative companies have emerged. Some technologies can already form large-scale products and have obvious advantages in certain fields.
“At present, the scope of application of the robotics industry has expanded into many fields such as agriculture and electric power, and the enthusiasm of the capital market for robots continues to rise, and robot development has entered the 'golden age.' It is estimated that by 2020, the size of the Chinese robotic industry will exceed 60 billion yuan. "The latest research report released by CCID Consulting's Smart Manufacturing Industry Research Center on "2018 Robot Industry Development and Investment Value" was disclosed.
However, China's robotics industry also shows the characteristics of unbalanced regional development. According to the report, as of the end of last year, there were more than 6,500 robotics-related companies in the country. The areas that are relatively concentrated are the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta region, and the Pearl River Delta region.
Zhu Sendi, former executive vice president of China National Machinery Industry Federation, a member of the National Strategy Committee for Manufacturing Powerful Country Construction, told reporters: “Overall, the decade from 2015 to 2025 is a period when China’s robotics industry has seen a leap.â€
In fact, the above-mentioned committee had predicted that by 2020, China’s industrial robot sales will exceed 150,000 units and the number of possessions will reach 800,000 units.
Market demand determines industry direction
In general, robots can be roughly divided into three categories: industrial robots, special robots, and service robots. At present, China's three types of robots have their own characteristics and many highlights. Take industrial robots as an example. China is the largest country in industrial robots applications. Larger global robot manufacturers have set up branch factories in China, and even headquarters of many manufacturers have moved to China. For service robots, China's market size in 2016 only reached 1.03 billion U.S. dollars. However, with the accelerated aging of the population, as well as continuing strong demand for medical and educational services, there is a huge market potential and development space for service robots in China.
Liu Jinchang, a researcher at the High Technology Center of the Ministry of Science and Technology, said that the robot industry is “somewhat hot indeed and should be developed selectively. Robots can’t do it for everyone. It takes a long time to accumulate. There are a lot of robot factories on the market that are switching from other fields.†This will require scientific guidance.†However, Liu Jinchang also bluntly stated that “doing a lot of products and selling them is called overcapacity.†In his view, the robotics industry has not yet seen signs of excess production capacity, let alone As technology continues to advance, more intelligent robots are needed to meet people's needs in the future.
In fact, not all artificial intelligence and robotics industries are the “tipping points†at this stage. "In the next three to five years, robotics will break out in the area of computing and perception." President of songson robot Qu Daokui predicted. In Zhu's view, the needs of the market determine the speed and intensity of industrial development. "At present, the most widely used robot application field is still the automotive industry, followed by the electronic information industry," Zhu said.
In the industry's view, the combination of the needs of the domestic market, the combination of production, education, and research, and the strengthening of corporate innovation are the way out for the future. “In the future, domestic companies can make breakthroughs in five dimensions: core components, innovative products, market segments, after-sales services, and capital mergers and acquisitions. Only by achieving independent innovation and mastering high-end core skills can we fundamentally improve core competitiveness. And then gain a firm foothold in the market." Shenzhen, a long-term industry research and development of the robot industry to the "Economic Information Daily" reporter said.
Strengthen guidance and standard development
Cai Hexuan, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, told the media that as more and more companies have entered the field of robot manufacturing, perfecting the standards system, improving testing and certification, standardizing the market system, and promoting fair competition have become imperative.
In fact, in order to promote the healthy development of China's robotics industry, ministries and commissions such as the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have successively introduced a series of follow-up industrial development promotion measures. As early as April last year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the National Development and Reform Commission, and the Ministry of Finance jointly issued the requirements of the "Robotic Industry Development Plan (2016-2020)", and within five years, it will form a relatively complete system for the robot industry in China. According to the work plan of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the next phase of related industry promotion policies will address two key issues: First, to promote the development of the robot industry to high-end development; Second, to regulate the market order and prevent the disorderly development of the robot industry.
"At present, China's robotic industry is undergoing a critical period of development from quantitative expansion to high-quality development." Luo Junjie, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that in the future, it is necessary to promote the quality of robots and move toward high-end industries. We will focus on solving some "cock-neck" problems and make full use of the Robot Innovation Center to jointly build a national robotic innovation platform that will break through key commonalities such as human-computer interaction, supple control, functional bionics, and intellisense.
"The second is to prevent disorderly competition and standardize the development of the industry." Luo Junjie said that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology had previously announced a list of companies that meet the "industrial robot industry regulatory requirements". Next, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology will further implement the industry's standardized management and guidance. Policy resources are concentrated. At the same time, the use of China's robotics industry alliances and other industry organizations to promote industry self-discipline, improve the robot testing and certification platform, and develop the industry's much-needed standards. The third is to focus on nurturing world-class robotic industry clusters to promote the development of large and medium-sized enterprises.
