Molex Introduces Impact? 100-Ohm Backplane Connector

Molex , the world's leading electronic components company, recently introduced a combination of high speed and high density ImpactTM 100-Ohm backplane connectors in a single modular package designed for high speed applications. Adjustable Impact connector technology delivers data rates up to 25 Gbps with excellent signal density of up to 80 differential pairs per inch when used in a 6-pair configuration.

Impact backplane connectors are designed to meet the needs of next-generation applications for high-speed networking equipment and storage servers in the data and communications, medical, military, and aerospace industries. This backplane connector meets EEE 10GBASE-KR and OIF Stat Eye Compliant end-to-end channel performance requirements.

With an easy-to-manage 1.90 by 1.35mm grid that reduces PCB routing complexity and cost, this edge-to-edge differential pair backplane system supports high bandwidth requirements while minimizing board and system footprint. The compatible pin attach options (0.39 and 0.46mm) offer an option to optimize design and achieve excellent mechanical and electrical performance in a traditional backplane or midplane architecture. The Impact daughter board mating interface uses a linear, staggered, two-piece contact system that reduces the mating force of each pin and provides ground signal sequencing without the need for multiple backplane signal pin heights.

The Impact Series Backplane Connector System is available in traditional, coplanar, mezzanine, quadrature and quadrature direct configurations, providing the best versatility in its class. The Impact Signal Module option changes depending on the configuration and provides a 2 to 6 wire pair configuration. The Impact power module is available in 3 to 6 wire pair sizes as well as conventional, coplanar and mid layer configurations, each rated at 60.0 to 120.0A.
