Huawei wins 5G voice, standards will be introduced to the market in the next decade

According to the US "Wall Street Journal" report, a Chinese company is playing an unusual role in the global telecommunications industry trying to determine the next generation of ultra-high-speed network standards. This is China's Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

Huawei wins 5G voice, standards will be introduced to the market in the next decade

The concept of modern mobile phone networks was pioneered by European and American equipment suppliers such as Ericsson, Nokia and Qualcomm. These companies have played a vital role in establishing industry standards and the subsequent design, manufacture, and rollout of hardware (such as antennas) that have laid the foundation for today's globally popular 3G and 4G high-speed networks. .

But recently, competitors from Asia, especially China, have begun to challenge the existing order. Huawei, which is banned from selling telecommunications equipment in the United States because of national security issues, is in an excellent position and is expected to play a catalytic role in the formation of next-generation network standards.

At the end of last year, top engineers from global telecommunications companies rushed to Vienna to participate in a round of low-key but strategic meetings aimed at defining the performance and technical parameters of 5G networks.

In the splendid conference room of the Vienna Intercontinental Hotel where representatives of various companies are gathered, there are several rows of tables with Huawei's safflower logo. According to some estimates, Huawei has replaced Sweden's Ericsson as the world's largest supplier of wireless devices by revenue. According to IHS Markit, the global market for wireless devices in 2015 was $48 billion, with Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia controlling about 80% of the market.

Huawei executives said that Huawei initially copied Western technology and provided quality products at a lower cost, which led to development. But with 80,000 employees working on research and development, Huawei has now become a powerful innovation force. Ericsson and Nokia are cutting costs and laying off staff, and they have relatively few delegates to the four-day Vienna conference. At the meeting, various telecommunications companies competed for the right to speak of 5G design, and it is expected that this standard will be introduced to the market in the next decade.

Dimitris Mavrakis, an analyst at ABI Research, a technology consultancy, said that after the end of such meetings, the Geneva-based United Nations International Telecommunications Union will determine the final standards for 5G networks in detail, and from 2019 on which are the essential patent technologies. .
