A stable Internet is an important part of the future growth and development of virtual reality (VR). Recognizing this, HTC is cooperating with China Mobile to launch the '5G Devices Forerunner IniTIaTIve' (5G Device Forerunner Initiative).
The initiative aims to conduct large-scale testing of commercial 5G devices, which will help develop new VR applications, such as HTC's standalone VR device HTC Vive Focus.
5G will be fully launched in 2020, and the partners participating in the project hope to realize their huge potential and develop new areas of VR and 5G.
HTC Chairman Cher Wang said: "With the continuous development of next-generation mobile technologies, the popularization of 5G networks will facilitate the new generation of VR/AR use cases, thereby driving faster large-scale applications and more natural interactive immersion technology."
The development of new 5G applications and services, as well as new VR applications, will undoubtedly eventually enter other fields and bring benefits to these fields.
China Mobile will also help HTC increase its sales in China. Since China Mobile is the largest operator among the three major operators in China, this makes them expected to drive sales of HTC products (such as HTC Vive Focus) and smartphones.
HTC Vive Focus is currently only sold in China, but HTC said it intends to push the device to a broader market later in 2018, but the exact time has not been determined. However, developers and equipment are already in place.
