Austin, Texas, June 25, 2013 -Freescale Semiconductor (NYSE: FSL) has now launched the industry's most comprehensive system-level solution for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) based on automotive radar. The new Qorivva MPC577xK microcontroller (MCU) and MRD2001 77 GHz radar transceiver chipset provide the embedded technology needed for an economical, radar-based ADAS solution, reducing component use and improving the solution ’s use in mainstream vehicles use.
The National Highway Safety Administration recently proposed many changes to its five-star safety plan. These recommendations herald that automakers will soon need to strengthen measures to protect passengers in the event of a collision – they may need to prevent collisions completely. Many car manufacturers are committed to meeting this new standard by 2016, and the solutions currently being tested enable them to achieve the highest level of safety, while also providing the advanced technology and convenience consumers expect. Performance data in the European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) suggests that safety systems such as autonomous emergency braking (AEB) can reduce accidents by up to 27% and can significantly reduce road injuries. Euro NCAP plans to start using AEB assessment in its five-star rating plan for cars sold in Europe in 2014.
By using Freescale's Qorivva MPC577xK MCU and MRD2001 77 GHz radar transceiver chipset, automakers can implement long-range and medium-range front-end radars for adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking systems, management of blind spots and side collisions Detection-just pass a single scalable multi-channel solution.
Bob Conrad, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Automotive MCU Business Unit at Freescale, said: "Freescale ’s latest system-level solutions for automotive radar systems have brought unparalleled integration to automotive manufacturers, reducing circuit board components and reducing Software complexity and cost, it brings many related advantages. This feature is also very economical enough to extend common safety systems to a wider range of models. "
Designers can combine radar transceiver chipsets with Qorivva MCUs to implement total system solutions for low-end and high-end radar modules. By utilizing a scalable solution, car manufacturers can avoid purchasing and reconfiguring different solutions between different car models, saving time and material costs.
Ian Riches, Director of Strategic Analysis at Global AutomoTIve PracTIce, said: "ADAS solutions continue to gain popularity and are no longer limited to high-end luxury cars. Currently, automakers want to implement these advanced safety features across their entire product line. In order to achieve this goal, They need a more integrated, more cost-effective solution. "" Freescale radar solutions provide almost everything automakers need to expand ADAS applications. The system can be completed without additional semiconductors or components, making consumption Those who can benefit from safer, more advanced and more reliable vehicles are not limited to the luxury car market. "
Qorivva MPC577xK MCU – single-chip automotive radar solution
The Qorivva MPC577xK MCU built with Power Architecture® technology provides the highest level of digital and analog integration in a single-chip solution for radar applications, avoiding the use of four additional major printed circuit board (PCB) components, reducing system costs, Reduced PCB space and software complexity. Through key integrated digital accelerators, MCUs can also provide high performance for computationally intensive tasks and provide a cutting-edge signal processing toolbox that contains all the hardware modules required to process sampled signals in short-range, medium-range, and long-range radar applications . These features of Qorivva MPC577xK MCU will help more mainstream vehicles adopt radar-based ADAS.
MRD2001 77 GHz radar transceiver chipset
The MRD2001 77 GHz radar transceiver chipset provides a comprehensive high-performance radar transceiver with low power consumption and excellent VCO phase noise to provide accurate target resolution. The chipset supports fast modulation through synchronous effective channels, which can achieve excellent spatial resolution and detection accuracy. MRD2001 uses advanced packaging technology, operating frequency up to 100 GHz, with extremely low insertion loss and parasitic effects. Because there is no need to use chip and wiring assembly technology for the bare chip, the packaged chipset simplifies the end user's radar module assembly. In addition, the chipset can be expanded to 4 TX channels and 12 RX channels at any time, so that a radar platform can control the electron beam in a wide field of view, and supports long, medium and short range radar applications for low, medium, high and luxury cars.
other apps
In addition to ADAS, Freescale's Qorivva MPC577xK MCU and MRD2001 77 GHz radar transceiver chipset solutions are also suitable for a wide range of industrial and emerging consumer electronics applications, such as gesture sensing, air curtains, security systems and positioning.
Leading the way in security
For 15 years, Freescale products have been in a leading position in the field of automotive safety, ensuring the most stringent safety level. The newly launched Qorivva MPC577xK MCU is a SafeAssure functional safety solution that has been defined and developed in compliance with the ISO 26262 standard from the beginning. MPC577xK's architecture and design process help shorten the design time and reduce the complexity of developing automotive safety applications that comply with ISO 26262. MPC577xK is mainly for safety applications that comply with the ASIL-D standard. ASIL-D contains the most critical safety processes and the most stringent testing specifications in all ISO 26262 safety integrity levels.
