Don't be naive to think that the front panel attenuation knob of the amplifier is to reduce the output power.

Many practitioners in daily use mistakenly believe that
Analog attenuation knob on the front panel of professional dual-channel, multi-channel power amplifier products,
The digital progressive attenuation button is to reduce the output power!
this is not the truth!

The attenuation knob of the power amplifier panel changes the amplification factor of the power amplifier, not the output power. Therefore, the power amplifier's attenuation knob may output the maximum power regardless of the position to which it is attenuated.
These parameters represent how much the amplifier knob is attenuated (the attenuation knob or the button to which position), without reducing the maximum power output of the amplifier.

For this we need two valid parameters:
1. Calculate the maximum output voltage from the RMS output power at nominal impedance.
2. Find the maximum allowable input voltage for the amplifier product in the data.

1. Pass the formula (input voltage = √ power X impedance)
It is calculated that the RMS maximum voltage output of the amplifier in the 8 Ω state is 80V.
2. Pass the formula (dBu=20log (voltage / 0.7746V))
Calculated: The maximum allowable input voltage of the amplifier is 8.7V.
3. Pass the formula (least effective multiple = RMS maximum output voltage / maximum allowable input voltage)
Calculated: When the power amplifier meets the nominal maximum output power, the minimum required magnification is 9 times and the voltage gain is 19 dB.

summary
The amplifier adjusts the panel knob or the button to reduce the magnification to 9 times (voltage gain 19 dB) or more, and the amplifier output can reach the nominal maximum output. So don't worry about adjusting the amplifier panel knob or button, it will change the output power doubts!

At present, the magnification of professional power amplifiers on the market is generally about 100 times, which means that the audio system is in a static situation, the noise floor of the front-end equipment is amplified by 100 times through the power amplifier!
In some systems where the system noise floor is not high or the system noise floor is small, the magnification may not be changed.
If the system noise floor is obvious and the system has been used normally, changing the amplification factor to the minimum effective amplification factor can minimize the system noise floor and not affect the maximum output power.

Another example

The mixer and speaker manager can provide an output voltage of 8.7V or higher. With the above-mentioned power amplifier, the front-end equipment noise floor is amplified by 100 times without changing the magnification, but if it is changed to the minimum effective amplification In the case of multiples, the front-end device noise floor is amplified by a factor of nine. The output power is exactly the same in both cases, but the system noise floor is huge.

Note: This application effectively improves the overall static signal-to-noise ratio of the system and is used in conjunction with the standard system calibration. Depending on the maximum rms input voltage of your choice of speaker product, combined with your determined amplifier magnification, you will eventually adjust the safety limit voltage of your limiter. Effectively reduce the static noise floor of the system while ensuring system security.
