Huaishu Peng, a Ph.D. student in information science at Cornell University, developed an experimental technique that allowed him to modify the 3D printing structure through the AR while the robot was working. He called the system Robetic Modeling Assistant (RoMA).
In the demo video, Peng shows how to make a special structure with RoMA and use AR-based visual guides to sculpt objects.
The combination of AR and robots allows designers to design the next function using the components they just printed. Designers can even design and print directly on existing objects, enhancing the process between design and manufacturing.
Using AR to design structures and objects around real objects is an unexplored virgin land, and Peng said that for the potential between AR and 3D printing, he only touched the fur.
