More than technical problems, Apple's promotion of Mirco LED commercial road is very difficult

Since Apple released the iPhone X, its topic has never faded. The iPhone X's futuristic high-screen ratio design has attracted a lot of attention since its launch, and sales are also very impressive. However, this phone retains the earpiece on the top of the screen and the front camera, and then matches the black bottom edge. The live off is the sense of sight of Qi Qihai, which makes the fruit powder feel quite rich.

Apple also favors! This is the Micro LED

Does Apple still have a more favorable full-screen display technology? In fact, there is really, there is Mirco LED. What is a Mirco LED? This display technology is to reduce the size of the LED to the micron level, the display area per square meter is about six or seven hundred thousand display pixels, and each pixel has three red, green and blue LED crystals to achieve self-illumination of the screen. The miniature LED size is only 100 microns or less, which is one percent of the original LED size and smaller than a single sand.

After reducing the size of the LEDs, manufacturers can move the micron-sized RGB tri-color Micro LEDs onto the substrate through massive transfer technology. Compared with the traditional liquid crystal display, this operation can not only directly discard the LCD (liquid crystal) layer, but also achieve more free cutting, the size of the entire screen can be more flexible.

Taking into account the technical advantages of Mirco LEDs, it seems that Mirco LEDs can make Apple's comprehensive screen dreams closer to reality. Since Apple acquired LuxVue Technology, a micro LED screen company on May 2, 2014, its patented technology includes Mirco LED.

After Apple acquired such a small company, there were rumors at the time that the Apple Watch S3 would use Mirco LED technology. But at the Apple conference on September 13, 2017, we saw the Apple Watch S3 using the same OLED screen as the iPhone X.

From this point of view, Apple is not ready to put Mirco LED technology into commercial use in 2017. Apple's new technology approach has always been the technology that can be put into commercial use in other display products, and can achieve stable production and enhance user experience. This can be seen from the long development of OLED technology.

No play next year! Mirco LED commercial road is very difficult

Following the usual release interval of Apple's mobile phones, at least one new mobile phone model will be available every year. The time to market for the iPhone 11 is also basically determined to be in the second half of 2018. Judging from the current iPhone 11 concept map, the full screen effect that this mobile phone wants to achieve is super high in the screen ratio, and it is necessary to realize the shaped opening of the screen. If Mirco LED technology is used, it means that this technology needs to achieve a wide range of stable supply within a year, which is obviously unrealistic.

The technical advantages of Mirco LEDs are obvious. It eliminates the LCD (liquid crystal) layer and enables high-definition picture output. Thanks to its self-illumination technology, its contrast ratio can also be significantly improved. Since the size of its LEDs is on the micron level, resolution is also extremely advantageous. In terms of theoretical lifetime, it is longer than OLED products and traditional LCD products, and the reaction time is shorter.

But the tiny LED crystal is also a double-edged sword. It is not easy for this technology to be promoted. In the production of the product, the size of the LED of the Micro LED is on the micron level, which makes the welding difficult and the yield is low, which ultimately leads to higher cost of the product. In the production process, this is also known as the "macro micro-transfer technology", which achieves at least 300 PPI pixel density on a one-inch driver board and high-reliability installation of hundreds of thousands of three primary color LED crystals. If it is a 5-inch mobile phone screen, it needs more than 3 million pixels.

There are still many technical difficulties to achieve stable production of Micro LEDs. For example: LED semiconductor ultra-micro crystal manufacturing, ultra-fine crystal wafer split, CELL module packaging test, full-screen system consistency debugging and control IC design, splicing controller research and development design. Therefore, if this technology is to be promoted, it is not just a simple merger of several manufacturers.

More than technical difficulty! Also look at the face of the market

Apple's promotion of Micro LED is not just a technical problem. In terms of market sales, Apple's Cook, as the CEO of a listed company, must consider the profit margin of the product. If the Micro LED mobile phone is launched at this time, the price should not be too high, and the cost will naturally not be lower, so the profit of the product will be greatly reduced.

In addition, Apple's newly launched OLED screen has a perfect industrial chain. After the launch of the iPhone X, despite the "Qi Liuhai", burn-in screen, automatic shutdown and other issues, there is no need to upgrade. It is obviously not sensible to overthrow the OLED screen at this time.

A large number of mobile phone products on the market still use traditional LCD screens, which have taken advantage of the inherent advantages in cost. Low cost, stable supply chain, and good user feedback are hard to resist by any manufacturer. If Apple abandons the OLED screen at this time, it will not only abandon the mature industrial chain, but also it is difficult to compete with other mobile phones in terms of cost performance. Therefore, Apple wants to launch a Micro LED mobile phone with new technology, which is bound to face greater pressure from the market.

Power Cable

AC (Alternating Current) Power cord is to transmit high voltage. It is used to drive machinery or home appliances. Since AC Power Cord is output of high voltage electric power, there is a risk of electric shock injury, therefore, All the AC power cord must comply with safety standard to produce. DC (direct Current) power cord is used to the applicance with lower voltage mostly, so safety requirement is less stringent.
