Japan sets LED lighting standards to replace traditional lighting

At present, Japan is the country with the most significant achievements in LED lighting in Asia. In addition to the improvement in consumer awareness after the 311 earthquake, corporate bodies led by the Japan Electric Ball Industry Association have also contributed. It is understood that the current LED lighting related standards in Japan mainly include JIS Japan Industrial Standards and JEL Japan Electric Ball Industry Association specifications.

As of July 2011, there are six JIS LED lighting related specifications in Japan, and one under development, mainly related to the safety specifications and performance requirements of LED lighting modules and LED bulbs. As for the LED road lighting, there are no national standards, only the specifications required by local governments.

Japan mainly refers to the international standard IEC to establish LED lighting related specifications, these standards regulate the LED lighting in a variety of environments, the use of security and color performance, brightness, life, etc., to rule out the safety and performance of the LED lighting products that do not meet the specifications, The aim is to completely replace traditional lighting fixtures such as incandescent bulbs.

Among them, there are 4 specifications related to LED lighting formulated by the Japan Electric Ball Industry Association, which mainly define the LED lighting form and marking method, and the compatibility between LED lighting and traditional lighting and system compatibility. Because LED lighting is different from conventional lighting in terms of weight, circuit system requirements, etc., if no compatibility specification is formulated, LED lighting itself can easily cause damage, even heat, fire, or other hazards when used.
