CNBC reported that through this cooperation, the voice assistants of both parties will be able to activate each other. Amazon Alexa users can access some of the unique features of Microsoft Cortana, such as accessing work calendars and reading work emails. And Cortana users can shop on Amazon.com via Alexa, or they can control smart devices in their home.

It is an important task for us to let our users use Cortana anytime, anywhere on any device. Bringing Cortana's knowledge, Office 365 integration, engagement, and reminders to Alexa is a big step toward this goal.
Bezos pointed out:There will be many successful smart assistants in the future, each with different data sets and different areas of expertise. By combining them, the advantages will complement each other and bring a richer and more helpful experience to consumers. For Echo users, it's a good thing to have easy access to Cortana.
